MARC ELLINGTON Marc Ellington inspired musicianship, great songs and the sheer cast of players featured. Marc Ellington's friendship with Fairport Convention and in particular Richard Thompson resulted in a collection of Fairport alumni on this recording. Not content with Mr. R. Thompson adding sizzling red hot guitar to many tracks , Messers Pegg and Mattacks together with the late great Sandy Denny also contribute! And this is not to omit Trevor Lucas, Pat Donaldson and Jerry Conway from the then Fotheringay line -up. But the clincher, (not to forget ex Fairporter Ian Matthews),is the presence of most of The Flying Burrito Brothers in the studio, presumably taking time off from some London gigs? Rick Roberts,(vocals), Sneaky Pete on pedal steel and ex Byrd Chris Hillman, (mandolin and vocals), mingle with our finest folk - rockers as if born for the occasion! So, the music can't be anything else but brilliant can it? Highlights however, are Thompson's fluid yet biting lead guitar on 'Days used to be much warmer'and the sheer exuberant vocals of 'Oh no it can't be so.' But just listen to Robert's and Hillman 's heart rendingly aching chorus on 'All the Times.' Buy it - call it Trans Atlantic fusion or what ever you will -it's superb!Mr. CS Collard (Chesterfield, Derbyshire, U.K.)for Amazon.UK
